Health Goal for December:  Holiday Spirit

We should all look forward to the Holidays.  And, yet, it is amazing to know how many people can hardly get through them without a great deal of stress and exhaustion.

The fast pace of modern living seem to make people almost frantic in their approach to the Holiday season.  Pressures build for both the business person and the homemaker as they seek to fulfill all social, business and family obligations in a short span of time.

What many of us don’t realize is that the way we feel under pressure (mentally and physically) depends to a great extent on our overall health.  No one can feel relaxed, pleasant, and capable of coping with a busy schedule if his body is not functioning properly.

Even under normal circumstances, there is a difference in the reactions of those individual whose health is up to par and those whose health is less than should be expected.  And to that the overindulgence in food and beverage during the Holiday season, the drain on mental and physical capacities, and the result is more obvious.  Since the central nervous system influences every part of the body, stress shows up as extreme fatigue, nervous tension and lowered resistance against disease and disablement.

It’s easy to say “slow down for the Holidays,” but your doctor of chiropractic offers some sound advice based on his health care experience and training.

1.  Before you jump on the merry-go-round of activities, pull out and pitch all the non-essential projects that were time consuming and wasteful the previous year.

2.  Concentrate on essentials, and pace yourself.  Make up a list of projects to be done by priority and allow sufficient time for them.

3.  Don’t try to get all your entertaining into the Holidays.  If you “owe” someone dinner or social response, try to schedule it after the Holidays.  Since other people suffer the same frustrating schedule as you do, they might also appreciate an invitation when the pace slackens.

4.  Resist the temptation to over-eat or to indulge in an excess of rich foods.

5.  Get plenty of sleep and relaxation.

6.  Keep an important place on the calendar of busy activities for periodic health examinations, including a spinal examination.

Your doctor of chiropractic reminds you that having a happy Holiday depends on staying healthy, being energetic, and being free of pain and illness.

Persistent or recurring aches in the back and limbs may suggest a possible spinal or pelvic problem.  This often requires a structural correction of the cause in order to relieve the condition.  Although drugs may hide the pain temporarily, the spine and sacroiliac must be aligned to their proper position for normal function.

Chiropractic Philosophy:   You Can Stay Healthy

The spine is your lifeline to good health.  It should get the same regular check-up as your teeth, not just when you have pain.

As you chiropractor, we can work out an effective treatment program for you.  It may include manual adjustments to the spine.

What’s that?  Restoring movement in the joints of the spine and extremities with a series of hands-on therapies.

Are adjustments all we need?  No, we could also counsel you on diet, exercise and posture.

Posture?  You mean sitting up straight?  Book on the head?  We mean maintaining the three correct curves in your back.  Sitting tall, walking tall and thinking tall.

Bad posture blocks good health in lots of ways:

Where?  In bone and organ functions; in digestion; in breathing; in elimination; in mental and physical alertness.

How?  Spinal stress; limited joint movement; upper, mid and low-back pain; neck pain; headache.

Youthful body respond best to chiropractic care.

Early treatment may prevent many painful conditions later.  “The sooner the detection, the greater the correction.”

Research:  Canadian Study Validates Chiropractic

Canadian Study Validates Chiropractic’s Effectiveness.

Background of study:

· Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health in 1992

· Reviewed over 400 pieces of international literature including clinical trials.

· The area of low back pain offers the government an excellent opportunity to attain the twin goals of greater cost effectiveness and a major reduction in health care cost.

Findings and conclusion:

· The Manga Report concludes that chiropractic management of low back pain is greatly superior to medical management in terms of scientific validity, safety, cost-effectiveness and patient satisfaction.

· Evidence from Canada and other countries suggests potential saving of many hundreds of millions annually if more management of back pain was transferred from physicians to chiropractors.

· In view of medical management of back pain, Dr. Manga concludes that it is “untested, questionable or harmful nature of many current medical therapies.”
