Hello, and welcome to the introduction page and video to the 30 Day Cardio Club. The Cardio/Walk/Run club is a simple but effective way to optimize your health by training in 30 day intervals.
I started walking and running in 1992 after being in a major accident in which I was hit by a TARC (metropolitan) bus while riding a bike. I wasn’t able to play sports after the accident due to all of the scar tissue and edema. So, I decided to start walking after school at a local park in order to get back in shape. Eventually, I started walking and incorporated some running, then I was running and walking, and then eventually I was running the whole time and started playing sports again. Since, then I’ve trained for running races from 3 miles to 12 miles. Now I’m back to playing indoor soccer at age 40. For many years my training had been sporadic because I would train from race to race. But once the race was over, or if I became injured, or my schedule became really hectic and I knew I couldn’t complete the race I would stop training. In 2001 I started training with Dr. Schofield in Phoenix Arizona and he stressed to me to quit training from race to race and start training for life—by training in 30 day intervals. That is how the 30 day Walk/Run Club started.
By training in 30 day intervals you can plan your walk/run around your specific physical condition, weather, goals, and or personal schedule. By training in a group you are more likely to keep training and have more fun.
The Cardio/Walk/Run club is designed for everyone: from the sedentary, beginner, to the serious/active athlete. This is because you work within your own Target Heart Rate that is safe and effective. We will discuss this later.
If you have any concerns if you can participate in the Walk/Run Club then ask you doctor. If you have high B.P., high blood cholesterol, are a smoker, have pain or pressure in your chest upon exertion, history of heart disease in your immediate family, are more then 20 pounds overweight, have had a complete sedentary lifestyle in recent years, any history of lung problems, have been using prescribed medication on a regular basis, abuse of drugs or alcohol, and chronic problems with your bones or joints and any other chronic illness, such as diabetes, it is a good ideas to be checked by your doctor before starting an aerobic exercise program.
In order to participate in the Walk/Run Club you will need: a pair of walking or running shoes, a calendar that you can write in, a pencil, a 30 day training sheet with exercise recommendations, a body with a pulse, and a watch that keeps seconds. Optional, is a calculator to help figure out your THR and a training partner.
